According to the medical forensic examination results, Yervand Sargsyan, drafted from Armavir commissariat on May 12, 2010, died of a mechanical suffocation caused by the obstruction of airways by water. He was serving at the military unit no. 37447 of Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army in Aygestan (formerly Baluja). According to the official data, on July 16, 2010, at approximately 9:00 am Yervand Sargsyan, together with other draftees, went to the obstacle course near the military unit. At approximately 10:00 am, finishing their training, a group of draftees (six soldiers) went swimming to the pool near the river. To raise the level of the water, Yervand Sargsyan closed the mouth of the water pipe in the pool with his back which increased the water pressure in the pipe. As a result, he was dragged into the pipe and drowned. On June 28, 2010, a criminal case was initiated under Article 376, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code (negligent attitude to service if they negligently caused grave consequences) by the 1st Garrison Investigation Department of the RA Ministry of Defense.
